Tropicana Havana Tower Renovations
Atlantic City, NJ
Earlier this year, Tropicana Atlantic City announced another round of multi-million dollar renovations as part of their continued commitment to deliver more excitement, value, and variety to their customers. As part of the new renovation plan, SOSH Architects once again had the opportunity to work with the innovative casino resort, starting with the transformation of their Havana Tower Guestrooms.

To match the North Tower’s upgrades completed in 2015, the Havana Tower’s 500 rooms were designed to invite guests in with sophisticated new décor, contemporary artwork, modern furnishings, and spa-inspired bathrooms. The design team embraced the exceptional natural light and large windows to allow the various ocean and bay views to fill the rooms. Cues were taken from woven textiles in neutral hues, lively accent colors, and bold patterns inspired by the Cuban marketplace, which is also celebrated at Tropicana’s ‘The Quarter’. The result is a relaxing and modern getaway for any guest to experience and enjoy.

The newly renovated rooms debuted almost one year after Tropicana’s $50 million property-wide upgrade, which also included the North Tower Casino, 10 North Bar and Lounge, and the cutting-edge Boardwalk Façade.

Hotel Design:
Top 5 Trends

By Michael Mangini,
Director of Interior Design

Business or pleasure, traveling away from home can be a very hectic and stressful experience for anyone. As designers, it is our task to create an environment for any hotel guest to feel relaxed, reenergized, and comfortable during their stay. Today’s design trends cater to redefining class and luxury. While overindulgence is out, guests are embracing modern sophistication and technology more than ever.

Whether you are planning to build a new hotel or renovating outdated guestrooms, here are some growing design trends to consider:

1. Avoid being too trendy
Don’t outdate yourself before construction is even complete. Stick with design elements that have staying power, and be sure identify directly to your guests’ needs and wants.

2. Know your brand
Design standards are a lot higher today than they were 10 years ago. Choose color schemes and design features that fit your brand identity and promote the experience of your property.

3. Use neutral colors
Embrace a design that is centered around warm and inviting neutral colors, natural textures and pops of modern sophistication. A neutral color palette can fit a variety of design styles when combined with the right accents, fabrics, and textiles.

4. First impressions are everything!
Make a striking first impression with a lobby that is an inviting social space. With increasing business travel, hotel lobbies should provide a multi-use space for causal as well as formal conversations, working on laptops, and connecting devices.

5. Technology integration
It is important to design hotel spaces with the modern traveler in mind. Guests want the ease of using technology just as they do in their homes or offices. Integrate features such as digital lighting and temperature controls, smart TVs, WiFi, and USB and electrical outlets seamlessly into the room design. You can even incorporate smart tablet check-in service in the lobby!
