Sovereign Avenue School
Atlantic City, New Jersey A new 95,000 sq. ft. elementary school accommodating 750 children in grades K through 8. Since the small site and large building program mandated a typical double-loaded corridor solution with little opportunity for variation in the building footprint, the design intent was to break the mold of typical school buildings by using dynamic roof forms. The prows of the mono-slope roofs provide distinctive caps to the 'L-shape' classroom volume and the second floor media center. Curvilinear roofs top the gymnasium, cafetorium, stair towers and kindergarten entrance.
